Jazz Music Series:
Hazelrigg Brothers Mandragora

Saturday, October 29, 2016, 7:00 pm
at the 1867 Sanctuary at Ewing

Preservation New Jersey is pleased to present Mandragora at the 1867 Sanctuary at Ewing as part of our jazz music concert series.

Mandragora is a group inspired by the jazz/rock fusion of the 70's including bands like the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Return to Forever and the Allman Brothers and artists like Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa and others.

The band includes:

Martin Goldberg on guitars. Heavily influenced by JM, Pat M, Joe S, and Jeff B, formally the Guitarist for Cranbury Jazz, and also formally the Rage Power Trio guitarist, Several fusion guitar instrumental originals streaming on Spotify and available on iTunes where Martin performs on all the instruments, currently composing and performing with Mandragora.

Ben Cahill on keyboards. Recently retired from his position as a software engineer for Intel Corporation, Ben has enjoyed teaching jazz classes since 2001 in Westminster Conservatory’s (Princeton, NJ) Honors Music Program for young classical students. His own music education includes classical music theory and analysis at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY), recording engineering and jazz performance studies at University of Miami (Florida), jazz piano lessons with Laurie Altman at Westminster, and organ lessons with Eric Plutz at Westminster and Princeton University Chapel. He has a Hammond B3 (at home!) that he loves madly for jazz and rock, plays keyboards and electric bass in various jazz and rock ensembles in the New Jersey area, is active in the handbell and chancel choirs at Flemington Presbyterian Church, and substitutes as organist at other local churches.

Tom McMillan on bass. Starting with piano at an early age, by 12 he was playing guitar and bass in area bands doing all the popular songs of the day. Focusing on bass by high school, Tom studied music composition and theory at Dickinson College and played in the community orchestra. At this time he delved into the world of jazz and rock/fusion. A self-taught player, Tom has taken influences from many genres of music from BeBop to Electronica and played in a variety of bands and venues in NJ and PA. Current projects include McMillan & Co and the Supreme Love Orchestra and Area 25. He also enjoys composing, and recently wrote a piece for handbell choir – his wife Laura is the director. He is available for lessons and studio work. He continues to strive for new sounds and musical experiences.

Bob Lewis on drums. Bob is a percussion major graduating from the College of NJ studying under Tony DeNicola. His influences are Buddy Rich, Billy Cobbham and Dave Weckl among many others. He has played with many area bands including the very popular and successful Rackett. He is available for lessons as well.
